We're the Valley's Fresh Alternative
As an FCC-licensed non-commercial educational FM station, WVFA has a mandate to operate in the public interest, and to serve the needs of the businesses, churches, people, and organizations in its coverage area. Above all, however, WVFA desires to represent the Lord Jesus Christ in an honorable manner, and to adhere to sound Biblical standards. The directors of GMEF shall constitute the Editorial Board of WVFA unless or until they appoint an Editorial Board taken from a cross-section of area churches and organizations. The function of the Editorial Board shall be to review all locally-produced program copy (community announcements, underwriting support announcements, and local talk shows) to be certain that it conforms to standards of WVFA's version of "political correctness" and is in generally good taste. Any decision of the Editorial Board is considered "final" unless the Board is appointed by the directors, in which case it may be appealed to them.
POLITICAL CONTENT - As a non-commercial educational FM station, WVFA is not permitted to run political ads or any similar content that would be construed as political advertising. WVFA is also not permitted to directly or indirectly endorse any candidate. WVFA may educate the public regarding the impact of certain pending legislation, but is not permitted to "lobby" in support of or against certain legislation, especially federal. It is important to distinguish between legitimate educational activity and political activity. It is especially important that discussion program hosts do not allow in-studio guests or telephone callers to steer the discussions in the direction of improper political activity.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS - WVFA is not permitted to engage in statutory discrimination against any person or group on the basis of race, national origin, religion, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation. In other words, our goal is to avoid airing statements which could be constued as "bigotry". This, however, does not mean that WVFA is obligated to endorse or promote values or activities which are contrary to Biblical values and traditional Judeo-Christian or patriotic values. Each community calendar spot must contain the announcement that "all announcements submitted are subject to editing for content or length". This give the Editorial Board the option of either editing an announcement to remove objectionable material or rejecting it outright if it cannot be suitably edited. WVFA is under no obligation to lend support to any activity which is not deemed to be in the interest of public health, safety, or welfare. Therefore, WVFA will not announce activities whose primary character is not in keeping with standards of decency and responsible behavior. Examples would be consumption of alcohol/drugs, gambling, immorality (as defined by Scripture), or get-rich-quick schemes.
RESPECT FOR OPPOSING VIEWS - All WVFA programs and annuncements will attempt to show respect for opposing religious or world views without compromising any Biblical position. The goal is to refrain from libelous comments and disrespectful attacks.
WVFA's goal is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ and to serve the people of our community.
